Analysis of factors influencing postprandial C‐peptide levels in Japanese patients with type 2 diabetes: Comparison with C‐peptide levels after glucagon load

چکیده
UNLABELLED Aims/Introduction: Postprandial serum C-peptide levels are readily determined in clinical practice and have a good correlation with serum C-peptide levels after glucagon load; the measurement is often used as an index of endogenous insulin secretion. However, the factors affecting postprandial serum C-peptide levels remain to be evaluated. MATERIALS AND METHODS To investigate the clinical factors affecting postprandial serum C-peptide, 2-h postprandial C-peptide levels after breakfast (PPCPR) were analyzed retrospectively for comparison with glucagon-stimulated C-peptide (CPR-6min) levels measured during hospital admission in 273 Japanese patients with type 2 diabetes. RESULTS Multiple regression analysis showed that years from diagnosis, body mass index (BMI) and HbA1c were the major independent variables predicting PPCPR (R (2) = 0.315). HbA1c was a major factor predicting PPCPR, but did not predict CPR-6min. In addition, HbA1c was negatively correlated with PPCPR (r = -0.410, P < 0.0001) and PPCPR/CPR-6min (r = -0.313, P < 0.0001). CONCLUSIONS PPCPR was correlated with common factors predicting CPR, including years from diagnosis and BMI, but also was negatively correlated with HbA1c, a unique factor. These results show that chronic elevation of the glucose level might impair endogenous insulin secretion after meal load, but might have little effect on endogenous insulin secretion after glucagon load. Serum Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 Changes in Women with Type 2 Diabetes Following a Four Weeks Aerobic Exercise
Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of four weeks aerobic training on serum glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) in women with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Materials and Methods: Twenty T2DM patients (33-53 years) were randomly assigned into control (n=10) and experimental (n=10) groups. The main intervention included running on treadmill, reaching 55 to 80% o...

Introduction: Metabolic syndrome is defined as a cluster of metabolic disorders, which may lead to type II diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Promotion of healthy lifestyle and use of herbal supplements with anthocyanin and phenols are recommended for the treatment of metabolic syndrome. The present study aimed to investigate the effects of eight weeks of combined aerobic an...
متن کاملCombination therapy of glucagon‐like peptide‐1 receptor agonists and insulin for patients who developed diabetes after partial pancreatectomy
AIMS/INTRODUCTION It is known that after pancreatectomy, patients experience hyposecretion of endogenous insulin and frequently develop diabetes. However, it has been unclear whether combination therapy with glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists and basal insulin is effective for such patients. In the present study, we evaluated the efficacy and safety of combination therapy with long-actin...
متن کاملComparison of sitagliptin with nateglinide on postprandial glucose and related hormones in drug-naïve Japanese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus: A pilot study
AIMS/INTRODUCTION Dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors and glinides are effective in reducing postprandial hyperglycemia. However, little information is available on the comparative effects of the two drugs on the levels of postprandial glucose. The aim of the present study was to compare the effects of sitagliptin and nateglinide on meal tolerance tests in drug-naïve patients with type 2 diabetes...
متن کاملCorrelation of serum CPR to plasma glucose ratio with various indices of insulin secretion and diseases duration in type 2 diabetes.
Evaluating insulin secretion ability and sensitivity is essential to establish an appropriate treatment for patients with type 2 diabetes. The serum C-peptide response (CPR) level is used to evaluate the quantity of endogenous insulin secretion. However, the serum CPR level alone cannot indicate insulin-secretion ability or insulin sensitivity, because plasma glucose levels influence endogenous...
